DripDripDrop

I live in a region that is classified as a temperate rainforest. I know rain. I closely know the shades and tints of rain, and everyone of its permeations.

Today I had the pleasure of being reacquainted with an atmospheric river. Sheets, and sheets of wet stuff lashing all and sundry. Driving? Be prepared to have your windshield wipers dancing in triple time. Having a truck trailer come by you in the other lane? Pray for visibility as your car gets engulfed with water.

I ventured forth in the morning as I had several errands today to attend to.

Swish swish swish went the windshield wipers.

Swoosh swoosh swoosh went the water on the road.

Splash splash splash went the deluge hitting my car from passing vehicles.

ENOUGH! said my mind, my body in agreement hands white knuckled.

I pulled off the road and into the parking lot of a favourite restaurant. Food calling to warm my body and soul. Palak Paneer, Mutter Mushroom, and the lightest and most tender naan accompanied by masala chai. Warmth spread within while I listened to the rain against the window panes going

Drip

Drip

Drop.

  1. At the end, I love how you juxtapose the warmth of the food in your favourite restaurant to the cold and bitter rain. Without saying it, you built for the reader your emotional ties to the restaurant, and finding small joys in discomfort.

  2. Sounds like a smart and yummy decision. And I also agree that I liked how you talked about how warm you were vs how cold you were before.

Also, this is not helping me make my decision about driving out to see my niece’s musical tonight. It’s supposed to be very rainy and I’m not sure about driving in it…

  3. Such a perfect picture of driving in the rain in traffic. Love the contrast with the warm inviting food in the restaurant. All those sets of three onomatapoeic sounds and the final one going down like a raindrop!
Hope it’s stopped raining by now!

  4. The food sounds amazing! And, in spite of the rain, isn’t the temperate rainforest incredibly beautiful? (I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon).
